For those of you that celebrate Easter, I hope you have a happy one. While I normally only blog about my business life, I’m making an exception today.
I have a son that turns 3 in May. A few days ago he was eating popcorn and I reminded him not to eat the unpopped kernals. He told me he wouldn’t. Then he picked one up, studied it, and said, “Mommy, ‘dis an egg. It grows you into a chicken.”
I guess all the talk about the easter bunny, dyeing eggs, etc., sparked his imagination. In any case, it made me laugh.
It’s funny how people you meet in other situations can end up being your clients. My first client was a friend of mine, and I still continue to work for her to this day. Another client is my former realtor, another one is an acquaintance of an acquantaince. A future client on the horizon is my accountant. He has hooked me up with a local networking group that he highly recommends, and I’ll be attending the first meeting in 2 weeks.
So how did I get these clients? By being myself. Being friendly, helpful, and easy to talk to, and telling them about my business. Not a $200 ad I ran, or writing a positioning article. (I’ve done these too). I’m not going to give up on other types of marketing, it just hit me tonight that some of the best marketing you can do is to be yourself and mingle.
That’s my deep thought for the day.
I haven’t blogged in quite a while. I guess that indicates that I’m busy, which is a good thing. I’ve gained new clients, (an author and a Realtor), had a busy home life, and now have to do some fine-tuning of my co-authored book. But it’s time to get back on the blogging stick!
I have lots of blogging topics swirling around in my head, so I’ll give you a sneak preview of what’s to come. Stay tuned to posts about The Art of the Start, networking, new projects, and marketing.
Until next time…
