I had so much fun with the Patricia Volonakis Davis giveaway of “Harlot’s Sauce: A Memoir of Food, Family, Love, Loss, and Greece” that I decided to do a contest of my own and offer up several copies of my co-authored book: Write It Right: The Ground Rules for Self Editing Like the Pros! It gives you a beautifully simple way to self-edit your own writing. Check out the reviews on Amazon. There are no strings on this giveaway, though I would be ecstatic if the “winners” (after reading it, of course!) post a review to their own blog, Amazon, social networking site, or any other appropriate book review site of their choosing. I’d like to get people talking about this book again! Here are the contest details:
1. Entries are taken until 3 PM (Eastern, U.S.), Friday, October 9, 2009
2. To enter, just give me a comment on this post and include your email address (spell it out if you want) or provide another way for me to contact you.
3. One of my sons will randomly pick the appropriate number of entrants’ names from a hat (or cup, or giant trash bag!).
4. Open to interested contestants worldwide!
5. BONUS! If you want an additional chance(s) to win, please place a link to this post on your own blog, Twitter about it, talk about it on FaceBook – talk about it somewhere else anyway – pointing out the contest . Make sure to place another comment below with a link.
6. Odds in winning: I will offer one book for every seven applicants who enter! Your odds of winning will never be less than 1 in 7. So if there are 49 entries, I will draw 7 names. If there are 51 entries, I will draw 8 names.
Go ahead and spread the word: Good Luck!!
My friend and fellow virtual assistant Candy Beauchamp is constantly providing me with alerts for free reading material for my Kindle. I think my Kindle has paid for itself with the money I’ve saved from some of these surprisingly good (and free) books!
I’ve wondered why Amazon does this, and I don’t have a definitive answer, but here’s my theory. Some authors may be looking to generate a buzz on their book. Quick: How can you get a bunch of Amazon reviews without having to mail out books? Give it away for a limited time. And sometimes it appears to be authors’ older works that are free. I’ve seen everything from novels to memoirs to business books to erotica. There’s something for everyone!
Here are some suggested sites to see what’s available: (Thanks, Candy!)
Feedbooks: Food for the mind
ManyBooks.net - Free eBooks for your PDA, iPhone, or eBook Reader
Amazon.com: Great Deals on Kindle: The Kindle Store
WebScription Ebooks – Free Library
Main Page – Gutenberg

If you want a shortcut and don’t want to have to browse all the sites, follow me on Twitter! I post most of the freebie books I download. Though you won’t find many romances or sci fi books…not my favorites.
Enjoy!
Hope you enjoy this video of the drawing for the winner of Harlot’s Sauce! The winner will be contacted shortly for shipping info. Please check back soon for more book giveaways!

Have you written a great business book, novel, or memoir you’d like reviewed? I am now considering requests for book reviews. What are the requirements? Quite simply, it needs to look like a book I’d enjoy reading. Memoirs, novels and entrepreneur-related books are most likely to get accepted. You can be traditionally published or self published, just send an email to me with a brief synopsis of your book (Lauren at hiddenhelper dot com) and your required turnaround time. There is no fee to have your book reviewed, of course, and you may either mail me a hard copy of the book or email the file to my Kindle (both addresses provided).
Reviews are posted to my blog, linked to from my Twitter and Facebook accounts, and posted to Amazon.com. They are also available to use (verbatim) for your marketing purposes. I’ll help you get more (hopefully positive) reviews for your book where potential customers will see them, and in return you will keep my Amazon.com bill down.
For consideration of your book for review, drop me a line at Lauren at hiddenhelper dot com.
